Koi Pond Distributor Catches Big Shipping Errors

THE COMPANY:

Unit Liner was established in 1967 and they specialize in high quality lining systems such as tank liners, plating tank liners, lagoon liners and oilfield pit liners. They sell everything one would need to build a koi pond in their backyard; they even sell the fish! They pride themselves on unparalleled customer service and strive to always say, “Yes we can” to any customer request.

THE CHALLENGE:

Unit Liner’s pond division was growing at a rapid pace and they needed to put processes in place to manage that growth. Shipping and receiving were all being recorded using a pencil and paper and data entry took 4 full-time staff members. The company felt that it was time to streamline their processes.
The inventory at Unit Liner had similar packaging and the shipper would have to read the fine print to know exactly what item he was shipping. Ninety-eight percent of their shipments were correct but for a customer service driven organization, this was not acceptable.

THE SOLUTION:

Unit Liner’s Sage partner calls frequently to recommend software that could help them to grow their business. Scanco’s Radio Frequency Solution was one such solution. Radio Frequency uses barcode technology to eliminate manual data entry and catch shipping errors before they happen. Unit Liner embraced the new technology and immediately began seeing results.

THE RESULTS:

Since the installation of Scanco’s Radio Frequency Solution, Unit Liner has 100% shipping accuracy. They simply scan items as they pack shipments to verify that they are packing the correct parts. The handheld notifies them if they have made a mistake so that they can fix it on the spot.
The RF solution eliminated data entry and helped Unit Liner to increase productivity. Now it only requires two warehouse staff members to ship over 100 packages a day. Even receiving was easier with RF. “We can receive 40 pallets of product in a matter of minutes,” said Kim Blades, Office and IT Manager. “We were able to increase productivity with reduced staff and reduced errors.”
